Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival takes place in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, each August. Launched in 2008, the festival celebrates San Francisco's culture with a focus on local food, wine, beer, comedy, and art alongside a diverse music lineup. The park's lush setting — eucalyptus groves, meadows, and ocean fog — gives the festival a distinct atmosphere unlike the dusty desert or open-field settings of most major festivals. Outside Lands was the first major U.S. music festival to obtain a cannabis sales license, reflecting San Francisco's progressive culture. Past headliners include Radiohead, Metallica, Kendrick Lamar, and Elton John.
