Rock am Ring is one of Germany's largest and most storied rock festivals, held annually at the Nürburgring motorsport complex. Together with its twin festival Rock im Park in Nuremberg, it draws a combined audience of over 150,000 fans. Founded in 1985, Rock am Ring has hosted virtually every major rock and metal act of the last four decades, from Metallica and Iron Maiden to Foo Fighters and System of a Down. The Nürburgring setting — a legendary Formula 1 circuit — gives the festival a unique industrial grandeur. It is considered one of the essential European rock festival experiences.
